Privacy Policy
In short
Phone DNA measures your phone on your phone. Scans, battery readings, storage listings, speed tests and history are stored locally in an app database and are never uploaded. There is no account, no login and no server that receives your data. The one exception is advertising: the app shows ads through Google AdMob, and the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects data as described below.
Device information
The app reads publicly available details about your device — manufacturer, model, Android version, CPU architecture, core count, screen resolution and refresh rate, sensor list, total and available memory, and total and free storage. These are read through standard Android APIs, used to compute your score and shown to you on the Device information screen. They stay on the device.
Battery telemetry
Battery level, temperature, voltage, current, charge counter, charging state and cycle count are read from Android and, where the device exposes them, from the kernel's public power supply files. Readings are saved locally so the app can draw charge curves and estimate capacity. Readings older than 45 days are deleted automatically. If you start a Precision Battery Test, a foreground service samples these same values while your phone charges so the measurement is not interrupted; the notification it shows is required by Android.
Network information
The app reads your connection type (Wi-Fi, mobile, Ethernet), whether it is metered or validated, whether a VPN is active, and the link speed the system reports. Live traffic figures come from Android's own device-wide traffic counters. Speed tests download and upload a small amount of random data to Cloudflare's public measurement endpoint to time your connection; that request contains no personal information beyond what any web request reveals, such as your IP address, which Cloudflare processes under its own policy. The app does not read your browsing history, does not inspect traffic contents, and never asks for VPN permission.
Storage scanning
Smart Clean lists files through Android's MediaStore and public shared folders. It reads file names, sizes, dates and types. Duplicate detection hashes file contents on your device only, and no file, photo or video is ever uploaded. The app cannot and does not read other apps' private data. Nothing is deleted unless you tick it and confirm; for media the app did not create, Android itself shows the final confirmation.
Advertising
Phone DNA shows ads through Google AdMob. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect your advertising identifier, IP address, device and app information, and ad interaction data in order to serve and measure ads. This is Google's processing, not ours, and is governed by Google's privacy policy. You can request non-personalised ads at any time from Settings, and you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's own settings. We do not send your measurements, files or history to any ad network.
Analytics
This version ships with analytics disabled. No usage events are collected or transmitted. If analytics are ever added, this policy will be updated first and only anonymous feature-usage events would be recorded — never file names, file contents or device identifiers.
Where your data lives
All measurements are stored in a local database and local preferences inside the app's private storage. You can delete everything at any time with “Delete all history” in Settings, or by uninstalling the app. If you have Android backup enabled, your settings and history may be included in your own device backup, which is controlled by you and Google, not by us.
Sharing and challenge links
A Phone DNA card is drawn on your device and saved to the app's temporary folder so you can share it through Android's share sheet. The image is not uploaded to us. A challenge link contains only your own score numbers and the device name shown on the card, encoded in the link itself, so comparison works without any server. Whatever you send, and to whom, is entirely your choice.
Permissions
Internet and network state are used for speed tests and ads. Notifications are used for battery alerts you enable, an optional live network-speed readout, and for the Precision Battery Test progress. Media read access is used only for Smart Clean. Foreground service permission is used only for a battery measurement or network-speed notification you start yourself. Phone DNA does not request accessibility access, device administrator rights, VPN permission, notification listener access, contacts, location or the camera, and it does not require root.
Children
Phone DNA is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13.
